Skarsvaag featured in Scan Magazine through circular maritime project
A recent feature in Scan Magazine highlights AION’s work to develop new industrial applications for recycled plastic materials. One of the projects featured is a maritime collaboration involving REV Ocean and a vessel built by Skarsvaag Boats.
The article explores how AION works with companies to identify waste streams and develop new applications for materials that would otherwise be discarded. In the REV Ocean project, recovered fishing gear became part of the material development behind a new maritime application.
For Skarsvaag Boats, the project represents an interesting meeting point between material innovation and practical boatbuilding.
Working with HDPE is already an established part of our competence. The material is used across both vessel construction and specialised maritime solutions, where production methods, material properties and operational requirements must work together.
Projects like this give us an opportunity to explore how new material streams can be introduced into demanding maritime applications without losing sight of what ultimately matters: the finished solution has to work at sea.
The project also demonstrates the value of collaboration across the entire development chain. Material expertise, industrial design and practical production each bring different perspectives, and bringing them together can open possibilities that would be difficult to achieve in isolation.
